Are ice baths really all they are made out to be?

There are unending claims about the powers of cold water immersion (CWI, often just called “ice baths”).

But are we sure about that? How sure?

Ice baths can be a helpful recovery tool for aerobic performance, but NOT for anaerobic performance. There is a large psychological factor at play, which is not in itself negative or positive, but rather athlete- and situation-dependent. And we desperately need more research on better, more specific cooling protocols.
